Prepare your skin for summer

When preparing the skin for summer, the first and most obvious thing you’d want to start with, is getting rid of the unwanted hair on the body. Before jumping in and discussing ways we could do that, I’d like to confess that it’s 110% ok to have body/facial hair. I myself have body hair *shock, right?*, but it’s ok as we can get rid of it really easily.

Unwanted hair can really become a pain-in-the-ass situation as it is pretty annoying to have to deal with, especially in the summertime, and can also play with our self-confidence.  It’s nothing to be ashamed of though, I mean, everyone has body & facial hair as it is absolutely normal! Luckily, there are different ways we can get rid of that hair!

Before any procedure I recommend a good scrub, but how gentle the scrub should be and when it should be done, depends on the way you’re going to be getting rid of the hair. A good scrub that I recommend, is the Royal Coffee one. There is a whole post about it, so if you’re fancying, take a look at the review here

The first method is both inexpensive, easy and painless – shaving. This method is well-known and super basic. All you need is a razor, ( I recommend using men razor as it is more efficient and gives better results ) and a shaving cream ( Feel free to choose between women shaving creams, they work wonderfully as they leave your skin soft and smelling nice ).

I guess this is a little self-explanatory, but if you’ve never shaved before, you need to know that the hair will be back after 2-3 days, maybe even sooner. You also need to know that you need to use something such a shaving cream for the shaving to glide and avoid cuts, and also, your razor must be wet during the process.

Another way to get rid of the unwanted hair is waxing. You could use strips, special made for facial hair, but if you’re going to be waxing your body I then recommend purchasing one of those waxing jars. My favorite brand has ever been Veet, and I really recommend it if you’ve never tried it before. All you need to know + instructions are always to be found on the packages!

Waxing is a little more expensive than shaving, but it also lasts longer. By waxing, your skin can remain hairless and soft up to 4 weeks, which is amazing news if you’re going to be travelling in the summer. You won’t need to worry about unwanted hair on your body! Phew.

Another method which is a little more expensive than both shaving & waxing is a permanent hair removal device! If you don’t know what it is, well, by using such device you’re going to be removing hair with the power of light, with pulses. Mine is the Jewel one from Silk’n, and it comes with 100.000 light pulses which will last me a long while. This method can be used for both face and body, is painless and super easy to use.

You first need to shave the area you’re going to be pulsing/gliding, depending on your type of hair/skin – and then you’re going to adjust the device to your skin and type of hair, which is really important, therefore I recommend you read the instructions. This procedure kills the roots of the hair and in time, after a few sessions depending again on your skin/hair, the hairs won’t grow back again.

I must admit that I’ve only tested mine, therefore I can’t speak of potential results, but I’ll let you know how this particular one works and what my thoughts on it are! They’re in general safe and an amazing investment, which leads me to my last point. If you’re really wanting to get rid of the unwanted hair forever, you can get laser hair removal at a certified clinic. It’s worth every dollar!

Personally, I’m more of a waxing type of gal atm, but I’ve had my shaving episodes. I’ve kind of tried everything, the depilatory creams as well, which I must say, I just haven’t enjoyed. I’m going to be using the Jewel device for long-term results and I’ll keep you updated with a review!

Come back for part 2 next Sunday!

I would definitely choose waxing, just because the hair doesn’t grow back as quickly! Thank you for sharing all about this, Veet is my favourite brand for wax products!

Sending light & love your way,
